September 2017 Events

September is a transitional month between the end of summer and the beginning of fall. Its always interesting to see summer events mixed with fall ones in this month.  The weather always seems undecided if it wants to be summer or fall as well. 

 

WV Fit Expo- September 16-17th

            This free event is at the Charleston Civic Center. What better way to get out and exercise than to try a new activity? This event features an International Powerlifting League-Junior Cup, Intense Strongman Corp-National Championship, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament, and a 5K run. There will be many new health and wellness products and services, supplements, healthy food services. Perhaps some yummy fall recipes to add to your repertoire!  New equipment and apparel to test for that new fitness challenge you want to do with your friends.  You can also witness live fitness competitions to determine if that new exercise you saw on social media is as easy as it seemed. Come see all there is to offer. 

 

Margaret Denison Fall Nature Walks- September 16

            If you prefer your exercise to be more in a natural setting or you want to experience the first taste of fall outside, then go on a guided hike in the Kanawha State Forest.  There will be a series of guided hikes on a variety of topics.  Food and refreshments will be available for purchase with all proceeds benefitting the Forest Foundation to support forest activities. The hikes start at 9 and are $5 for adults and $2 for kids.

 

Mountain Games- September 23

            This event is at the Heritage Farm Museum & Village in Huntington. The 2017 Mountain Games are 10 scored competitions that include an obstacle course, feat of strength, big foot hunting, coal mining, rock climbing, shelter building, archery, steel walking, tomahawk throwing, and target shooting. The games are open to all ages. Adults and youth ages 6 and up will compete on the adult course. Children under 6 will compete in the Family Zone. Come to compete for Mountain Man, Woman, Youth or Team or just to cheer on someone else. The competition lasts about 3 hours and the admission fee for the games also gives you admission to the museum and village. Come early to see all there is to see and to size up the other competitors of course.

 

Arti Gras: Art Around Town- September 30 

            This St. Albans festival centers around all the wonderful local artists and musicians and showcases some local businesses with a walking/trolley tour as well as festivities on Olde Main! There's something for everyone to enjoy. The festival starts at 4 and continues until 10 PM. There's a free concert given by the Voodoo Katz starting at 8.
